Goodreads Description

I’m writing this because you begged. You know how I love the begging. In fact, you probably know too many things and know them far too well.

Who am I?

Well, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. I was a whore in my youth, a killer since my adolescence, and a monster as a man. I am the man who kidnapped Livvie. I am the man who held her in a dark room for weeks. But, most importantly, I am the man she loves.

She loves me. It’s quite sick, isn’t it?

Of course, there’s more to our story than can be surmised in a few short sentences, but I’m at a loss for justifying my behavior back then. I assume if you’re reading this, I don’t need to make those justifications. You’ve already made your own.

You’re reading this because you want to know about the rest of the story. You want to know what happened that warm summer night in September of 2010, the night I met Livvie at The Paseo. It was the night my life changed all over again.

It didn’t happen exactly as Livvie said. She’s been very kind to me in the retelling of our story. The truth is far more…complicated.

My Thoughts

I was sooooo beyond excited to read this because 1. I had NO idea there would be an epilogue when I finished Seduced in the Dark and 2. IT'S CALEB'S PERSPECTIVE!!! Ok, sorry, that was my fangirl moment, I'm done now...kinda...

So at the end of Seduced in the Dark we get a definite conclusion and lovely wrap-up in its own epilogue...but how did we get to that point between the last chapter and a year later? Well, that's what Caleb is here to tell you. Reading about how they got to their 'ever after' from his point of view was beautiful. He is still such a complex and darkly twisted soul (and he knows it) that reading things from his angle adds another whole level to the depth of this story. Caleb is not perfect. He doesn't try to be. But what he does try is to be better. His inner thoughts during situations of everyday life and we find annoying and he finds infuriating were some of my FAVORITE parts--i.e. common crowds and elevators (?!?!).

With these everyday nuances comes the very typical everyday interactions that LIvvie and Caleb go through trying to get to know each other in a non-captive situation. Their banter had me rolling with laughter and the innuendo sweating a bit. I just LOVE them. They are so similar in their humor and desires that you can't help but smile while reading about them. I think each of their characters were so much more developed in this epilogue that you really get who they are in real life. They are funny, smart, playful, and beautiful in all their quirks.

Their journey to 'ever after' wasn't easy by any means. A lot of expected trust issues and insecurities were present, with good reason. I loved this, too. It was realistic. Obviously this story is unique and the fact that I was able to connect to the characters and their story proves how freakin' genius CJ Roberts is. NOBODY could take what this story objectively is about and turn it into something beautiful. While it remains dark and haunting, the beauty of their growth and ability to find love in each other is unbelievably amazing.

I am SO incredibly sad to conclude the Dark Duet series and I am going to seriously miss Caleb and Livvie...James and Sophia...*tear*...maybe there will be more?...Please?!

Should You Read This? YES! If you loved Captive in the Dark and Seduced in the Dark--obvi. If you're looking for a dark, haunting, totally genius and unique look into the sex slave and kidnapping--check it out, yo.

  1. I have the first two books on my Kindle but I haven't read them yet, so I kind of glanced over this and saw that it was Caleb's POV. Not sure when I'll get to these but whenever I do, I'll pick this one up too.

  2. Arghhhh, I’m scared to read this. I just don’t know how to associate Livvie and Caleb without the whole captive thing. I keep hearing it’s amazing though so I gotta read it soon…
