Goodreads Description

Lizzie Brandt was valedictorian of her high school class, but at Radleigh University, all she's acing are partying and hooking up with the wrong guys. But all that changes when her parents are killed in a tragic accident, making her guardian to her two younger brothers. To keep them out of foster care, she'll have to fix up her image, her life, and her GPA—fast. Too bad the only person on campus she can go to for help is her humorless, pedantic Byzantine History TA, Connor Lawson, who isn't exactly Lizzie's biggest fan.

But Connor surprises her. Not only is he a great tutor, but he’s also a pretty great babysitter. And chauffeur. And listener. And he understands exactly what it’s like to be on your own before you're ready. Before long, Lizzie realizes having a responsible-adult type around has its perks... and that she'd like to do some rather irresponsible (but considerably adult) things with him as well. Good thing he's not the kind of guy who'd ever reciprocate.

Until he does.

Until they turn into far more than teacher and student.

Until the relationship that helped put their lives back together threatens everything they both have left.
Oh, my gosh! You guys! So here I am on holiday, burning through Kindle books with all the flights and long bus rides and up pops a Goodreads notification from Estelle recommending me a book called Last Will and Testament. I read the description, thanked the travel gods for wifi and bought it. BEST DECISION OF MY HOLIDAY. LWaT is about Lizzie, college girl who loses both her parents in a tragic car accident and now has custody of her two younger brothers. She’s slacked off in school and now to keep her scholarship she has to get her grades up. To do this, she enlists the help of her history TA, Connor. From there we get an explosive and one step forward two steps back situation.

The relationship between Lizzie and Connor is tenuous and steeped in sexual tension…drool. Lizzie is forced to grow up quickly in order to care for her younger brothers, and because of that she has to rely and ask favors of the only reliable person she has in her life…Connor. Lizzie would rather chew nails than ask him for help because he has never been very nice to her in the past. Connor is reliable, dependable, funny at times, and he can see Lizzie for all the good she has in her that she doesn’t even see herself. I love stories like this. I love when the other person sees the other clearly. We all want a little validation in our lives from somebody we trust and love especially when we are at our low points and feel like nothing we do is good enough. Lizzie has been left with so much responsibility and so much pain. Her relationship with Connor and that she has somebody she can count on is beautiful and heart-warming. While they are not without their problems, the progression of their relationship and figuring out how to be together felt so real and organic to the story. No unnecessary drama or misunderstandings. There are legit barriers to them being together so it is a rocky path they walk. They both are clear in their intentions, for the most part, and brutally honest, almost to a fault. BUT when they reach the point of no return…oh, holy shit is it hot. Like, who knew the quiet history teacher was so delicious in bed?! It’s always the quiet ones…well, not always BUT nerds rule the world and I might be a little biased but holla! to geeks being great in the sack.

SPEAKING of Connor specifically, I’ll get to Lizzie next. He is hotachaca hot! Smart, sexy, adorably socially awkward. He is just like an weird little nerd you wanna corrupt…then only to learn he is the one who will corrupt you. Guys, he referenced being obsessed with Anne Boleyn while growing up…then Katherine Howard…HELLO, HE MIGHT BE MY BOOK SOULMATE! Sorry not sorry, Lizzie! But OMG Lizzie!! Snarky, loud, unapologetic, in your face, foul-mouthed. EVERYTHING I love to see in a contemporary female character. She yells at people. She doesn’t let people get away with shit. I. Love. This. Y’all have no idea. Her characterization is one I love relating to and one I loved to root for.

Lizzie has made some preeeetty questionable choices in the past and those choices come back to bite her in the ass. The main source of conflict is one of very raw emotion and had my heart breaking with the choices Lizzie has to make. What I loved most about this climax in the conflict was that a situation which could have easily tore them apart with improper communication, they stood side by side and figured it out together. LOVED THIS! So often a character just lashes out and misunderstands a situation and writes the other person off without talking to them and I hate that! Unnecessary melodrama and this had none of that. We did have one psycho bitch but Team History fought back.

I loved this book. It was sexy and fun and emotional and raw. I started this book at midnight thinking, I’ll just start it and see how it is and an hour later and 100 pages I didn’t wanna put it down! I was emotionally invested almost immediately and it is written in such a way that makes reading it feel effortless. You’re transported into the setting and you just don’t want to leave. I cannot wait for the next book and everything else in the future by this author.

Backstage Pass
If you love fun, sexy, AND emotional reads with snarky characters and HEAT in the bedroom…this one’s for you.
